Your First Visit

We warmly welcome new patients. Your first appointment will usually be a new patient assessment (unless you are attending for an emergency).

  • If you visit for an emergency, we will treat the problem first and either complete the new patient assessment at the same time or invite you back for one shortly afterwards.
  • We understand that many people feel anxious or vulnerable about dental visits. Our friendly, down-to-earth team will always treat you with kindness and respect.
  • There is no judgement – we are here to support you and help you achieve and maintain your best dental health.

Our New Patient Assessment is a longer appointment; your clinician will explore in depth both your examination and reasons for attending and explain the options available to you, to make sure you get the best care possible. 

At Armagh Dental Clinic, our goal is to provide high-quality dental care with an emphasis on prevention. We want every visit to be as comfortable and stress-free as possible for all our patients.

Your First Visit

What to Expect: before your first visit

We will send you a medical history questionnaire and any other necessary forms via a secure patient link

At your first appointment:

1. We will review your medical history

2. We will have a relaxed chat about why you are visiting and what you would like to achieve with us

3. You will receive a comprehensive dental examination, including:

  • Oral cancer screening
  • Checks for tooth decay
  • Bite and alignment assessment
  • Gum health (checking for gum disease and recession)
  • Review of missing teeth and replacement options
  • Evaluation of tooth wear (acid erosion, abrasion, grinding)
  • Examination of fillings, crowns, bridges, and dentures
  • Jaw joints and muscle check (with recommendations such as occlusal splints if needed)

Additional Checks

In addition to the visual examination, we may recommend dental x-rays.

X-rays help reveal issues not visible during a routine visual examination, such as problems under the gums or beneath existing restorations. They are often essential for a complete dental health assessment.

Did you know? Screening radiographs are recommended by the FDGP guidelines at least every 2 years.

Additional Checks

After Your First Visit

Once we’ve completed your examination and screening, we’ll review all of our findings with you. We believe in keeping you fully involved in the decision-making and treatment process.

If we identify any conditions, we’ll explain them clearly, highlight the benefits of treatment, and provide guidance on the urgency of care. Our priority is to carry out any urgent treatment first to stabilise your oral health before moving on to cosmetic or longer-term improvements.

You’ll receive a detailed treatment plan, including:

  • The time required for each stage of treatment
  • A clear schedule of appointments
  • An estimate of all costs involved

When you’re happy with the plan, our reception team will work with you to arrange appointments at times that suit your schedule.

You will also seek advice on which payment plan suits your needs best from our experienced team, but all our private renumeration plans are optional.

Denplan essentials will be explained and information provided; allowing our patients the opportunity to make informed choices and decide what is best for them to maintain their oral health.
